HSL FemtoNet
HSL FemtoNet is a managed service enabling operators to cost effectively deploy a reliable femtocell network with relative ease. The service is available in four primary models. With both models HSL is responsible for operating and monitoring the femtocell network comprising femtocells from HSL.
OUTSOURCED
With the Outsourced service HSL FemtoNet enables an operator to have no capital expenditure by utilising the femtocell BSS operated and owned by HSL. The BSS is a multi-tenanted managed service allowing operators to benefit from the economies that can be realised through this model. Operators pay a per femtocell (unit) management fee and data transfer charges. The operator is responsible for the cost of any A-interface and Gb TDM links.
INTEGRATED
With the Integrated service HSL FemtoNet's purpose is managing the femtocell BSS that has been purchased by an operator and installed in their switch site or data centre. FemtoNet costs are in addition to the purchasing of hardware, software, licences and Support & Maintenance.
CLOUD
The HSL FemtoNet Cloud service employs network elements - security gateway, BSC and TRAU - to support the HSL Femtocell, coupled with elastic computing resources from AWS, one of the largest providers of cloud computing. This allows the resources employed in delivering mobile services over the femtocell network to expand and contract as user demand for services increases and decreases, for example during the day and night.
REMOTE ROAMING SERVICE
The HSL FemtoNet Remote Roaming Service delivers GSM coverage in remote locations where mobile coverage is typically not available, whether that be on land, at sea or in the air. A femtocell (or picocell) BTS would be deployed in the remote location and would connect to either a local BSC or a remote BSC that is attached to an MSC and SGSN. Subscribers from over 350 mobile networks worldwide are then able to make and received voice calls, send and receive SMS/MMS and use data as they otherwise would do when roaming away from their home network.
